Case 5: Construction of water tunnels in Central Java
Type of Activity Water system technology
Organization Haji San Munadi
Area Pemalang, Central Java

Summary

The village of Gunung Tiga has stony soil which is not productive, poor in humus and lack of water. Even the local people have to walk for 3 kilometers to get water for consumption and during certain periods in dry season they have to buy water from the truck of water tanks which of course increase their expenditure. In the effort of providing fresh water, especially for consumption, San Munadi, a farmer, created water tunnel from bamboo as long as 3 kilometers completed with the reservoir tank. This water tunnel is used for agricultural water besides the main function for consumption. The bamboo pipes have replaced the arrival of water tank trucks in the village of Gunung Tiga.
