Water Environment Partnership in Asia (WEPA)
WEPA is a network sharing knowledge among 13 countries in Asia. The programme was established in 2004, aiming to improve the water environment in Asia by providing partner countries with relevant information and knowledge to strengthen water environmental governance.

China’s total freshwater resources are the fourth largest in the world. There are 45,203 rivers in China. Of these, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Pearl River, Songhua River, Huai River, Hai River, and Liao River constitute the seven major river basins. There are also numerous lakes, covering a total area of about 78,000 km2. The five largest freshwater lakes are Boyang Lake, Dongting Lake, Taihu Lake, Hongze Lake, and Chao Lake, all located around the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
