Case 2: Laguna Lake Development Authority Environmental Army
Name of Activity Physical Clean up of rivers and streams in Laguna Lake
Organization LLDA Environmental Army
Area Laguna Lake

Summary

The Environmental Army (Hukbong Pangkapaligiran) was organized to undertake the physical clean up of rivers and streams.  Composed mainly of volunteers, mostly farmers and fisher folk, who are directly affected by pollutants in the lake, the army spearheads the manual clearing of solid wastes, garbage, and other debris that obstruct the natural flow of waterways.  Today, more women and private sector representatives are volunteering for the Army-proof that it is fulfilling its function as an awareness-raising mechanism that demonstrates how every little effort that each one contributes goes a long way.
