Meeting Report
A Dialogue in Viet Nam

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) held a dialogue with experts on water quality management in collaboration with the WEPA partner in Viet Nam, the Institute of Environmental Technology (IET), Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, Vietnam on 8 February 2007 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. The meeting aimed to exchange views on current water environment management issues in Viet Nam between participants in the dialogue. The meeting also aimed to contribute to the enhancement of the WEPA database by putting the exchanged information on the database.

From Japan, officers in the Ministry of the Environment and IGES researchers participated in the meeting.  The local participants came from organizations related to water quality in Viet Nam, such as the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Viet Nam Association of Water and Environment Protection, and IET.

The participants in the dialogue exchanged information and views on water quality management issues. During the discussion, participants from Viet Nam raised four primary questions on environmental management in Japan. The following documents were provided by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment as supplementary information in answer to the questions after the dialogue.
