Case 15: Construction of wells in Yogyakarta
Type of Activity Water System Technology
Organization Dr. Ir. Sunyoto, Dipl. HE, DEA.
Area Yogyakarta

Summary

As an environmental engineer especially in the field of geo-hydrology, he considers the concept of drainage which is often used is not in congruent with the natural environment principle in Indonesia. The conventional concept describes that rain water shall be channeled as soon as possible to water body. But according to him, rain water as maximum as possible shall add to the quality of land water which is getting critical especially in urban areas.

This technology can also prevent flood because of the reduction of the volume of surface water. Sunyoto has been successful in developing absorbing wells that he successfully popularized in the society and even the Regional Government of Yogyakarta issued a regional regulation concerning the requirements for the construction of absorbing wells related to the issuance of building license.
